Purnima Devi Barman, Assam

Protecting the Endangered Greater Adjutant Stork while empowering women.

She is a wildlife biologist from Assam. She leads the 'Hargila Army', an all-female grassroots conservation movement dedicated to protecting the Greater Adjutant Stork from extinction. Dr Barman has been awarded the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) 2022 Champions of the Earth award in the Entrepreneurial Vision category. Her pioneering conservation work has empowered thousands of women, creating entrepreneurs and improving livelihoods while bringing the Greater Adjutant Stork back from the brink of extinction

Varsha Raikwar, Bundelkhand

Amplifies women's voices and promotes sustainable livelihoods through her inspiring work at Radio Bundelkhand.

Varsha Raikwar, working with Radio Bundelkhand, runs her own show ‘Apna Radio Apni Baatein.’ For the past four years, she has been involved in programmes aimed at empowering women, such as “Stree Ek Kahani Mere Bhi” and climate change and sustainable livelihood opportunities such as “Shubhkal” which is affecting the lives of local people in the Bundelkhand region. She also champions the cause around heritage,child marriage, voting awareness and new dimensions of agriculture.

Divya Hegde, Udupi

Divya Hegde,has won the UN Women's Award for Leadership Commitment at the 2021 Regional Asia-Pacific Women's Empowerment Principles Awards. She has been recognised for her sustained efforts in advancing gender equality through climate action efforts. Her organisation, Baeru Environmental Services, works in the areas of waste management, creation of livelihoods for rural women, and developing a circular economy in the region.

Hailing from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, India, he with the help of renewables has helped in reduction of the Greenhouse gas emissions to a very significant level in several industries.

Chandrakishor Patil, Nashik

Meet the man who safeguards Godavari with a whistle.

He has been winning praises on the internet for a simple deed he performed. He was seen standing near a garbage dump in the city. It was on a bridge where people threw the waste into the river Godavari. He stands beside the river from morning till 11 pm in the night with a whistle and alerts people to not throw garbage into the river. He has been doing this for the last five years.

Mehul Manjeshwar, Bengaluru

Being a firm believer in the impact of communication, raising awareness, and education being the foundation of change, Mehul Manjeshwar has always been passionate about sustainability. Mehul completed his MBA in the field to learn about the life cycle of products and how every process has an impact on the environment. Mehul is a Climate Reality Leader having had the opportunity to be trained during the Climate Reality Leadership Corps with former US Vice President Al Gore among other knowledgeable experts in the sustainability field. With the conviction that the world is capable of finding a balance between technology and non-conformism, Mehul believes that sustainability is not about giving up either side completely but about finding the best of both worlds.

Zeeshan Khan, Bhopal

Zeeshan Khan is popularly known as ‘Eco Man’ and he runs various plastic donation drives. He started the Plastic Donation Centre in Bhopal in 2019. With his optimistic vision, Zeeshan and his team have successfully recycled more than 50,000 kilograms of waste plastic between 2018 and 2020. He has also developed low-cost sanitation sensors for public toilets.

All her products are made from recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and renewable materials, while using non-toxic inks and ensuring optimisation of materials.
