Himachal Pradesh flash flood updates: Rescue operations underway, more rain likely today

Monsoons have wreaked havoc in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as heavy rainfall triggered a flash flood in Himachal Pradesh.

In Dharamshala, flood waters swept through the streets of Bhagsu Nag village, damaging parked vehicles. The district administration has instructed tourists to postpone their visit to Dharamsala in view of the heavy rains.

The state government as well as the central government are monitoring the situation with teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed in the region.

In Shimla, the national highway near Jhakri in the Rampur area has been blocked due to the heavy downpour

-The NDRF has rushed three teams to conduct rescue-and-search operations in the flash flood-affected regions in Kangra district. Several people were reported stranded near Boh and Tatwani villages, an NDRF spokesperson told news agency PTI.

– Himachal Pradesh govt put all departments on alert following flash floods triggered by heavy rain at Dharamshala in Kangra district.

-The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange weather warning of heavy to very heavy rain in the middle and low hills for today.

-Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the situation is being closely monitored. “Authorities are working with the state government. All possible support is being extended,” he tweeted.

-Rescuers said seven villagers were rescued from Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district where a massive mudslide triggered by flash floods hit a remote village, damaging several houses and shops and leaving one dead. Nine people are still missing. The seven people were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) after an eight-hour operation that started late Monday evening, officials told IANS over phone from the spot, according to a report.

-Several cars were swept away or were damaged in the flash flood in Himachal’s Kullu district. As many 25 roads have been blocked due to the sludge coming from the mountains.

-Several hotels in Dharamshala, McLeodGanj have been waterlogged.
