Mallika Arya shares this story from Varanasi on the huge rally led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She tells us how the streets were cleaned before the rally and decorated with hundreds of plastic balloons. This comes in after the Election Commission has put out strict norms on plastic pollution.

“The Roadshow in Varanasi went off fabulously well! Streets were cleaned so well last night and this morning it would make you wonder why this isn’t the case every single day. The streets were decorated with balloons and other (plastic looking) flyers and of course his face everywhere. The Balloons lasted only a few hrs in the heat and then started choking the gutters below. Not to mention the thousands of packets of water that were being distributed for free. Shops were closed all day, but who cares if a couple of vegetable vendors lose out on day earnings? The aftermath of the Roadshow for our clean India poster boy is something that really took the cake! ? A ‘successful day’ for a leader and the party and a tragic day for the common man and the Environment. Welcome to Indian Elections” – Mallika Arya, Environmentalist
